Atlanta kitchen remodel with custom cabinetry, marble backsplash, brass hardware, furniture-style green island, warm wood display cabinet, and layered traditional-modern design details

Tailored Atlanta Kitchen Renovation

This tailored Atlanta kitchen renovation transformed a builder-grade home into a highly personal space designed for everyday living, entertaining, and gathering. Without adding square footage, the design team reworked the existing footprint to create a kitchen that feels more refined, functional, and connected to the way the family lives.

From interior designer Becky Vocaire’s perspective, the inspiration came from the clients’ love for their home and neighborhood. After living in the house for a while, they wanted the kitchen and surrounding spaces to feel less like a builder-grade flip and more like their own. The result is a warm, layered kitchen with thoughtful custom details, distinctive furniture-style cabinetry, and an island designed to function almost like a communal table.

More About the Project

A key design feature is the large island, crafted by Schuon Custom Cabinetry and painted in Eucalyptus. The inset cabinetry below provides hidden storage, while the open seating arrangement allows stools to move around the island for children helping in the kitchen, casual family meals, or mingling during a party.

The tall stained cabinets were intentionally designed to feel like furniture pieces within the room. One serves as a china cabinet for displaying meaningful pieces, while another conceals the coffee station and microwave to keep the counters clear. A third tall cabinet houses the integrated refrigeration.

Mouser Cabinetry was used for the stained cabinetry, featuring a Pembrooke reeded door in quarter-sawn oak with a Nimbus finish. This adds warmth and texture alongside the custom white kitchen cabinetry. Schuon Custom Cabinetry was also used throughout the kitchen with square inset slab doors in China, paired with Top Knobs hardware for a clean, tailored look.

Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances, Ciot countertops and backsplash, Visual Comfort and Rejuvenation lighting, and flooring matched to the existing home all work together to create a kitchen that feels elevated, personal, and highly livable.

Just beyond the kitchen, a dedicated moody green bar creates a dramatic transition between the foyer and the main kitchen, dining, and living areas. Designed with Schuon Custom Cabinetry painted in Eucalyptus, the bar houses the family piano while adding a memorable entertaining space with rich color, brass details, patterned tile, and custom storage.
