Award-Winning Marietta Kitchen Remodel
The original kitchen was dated with segmented countertops around a radius wall. The island was too far from the counter to be efficient. Work zones were awkward and old shutters blocked most of the outside light. Appliances were missing or not working properly, and the pantry closet was inefficient.
Our goals in redesigning this large kitchen were to provide better workflow, add more storage, improve lighting, create an island workspace with seating for young children, and carve out a dedicated space for a coffee bar. Our design solution for this large-scale kitchen renovation of over 350 SF included creating custom inset cabinetry fitted along a curved wall, and designing an island of multi-angled base cabinets with a circular top.

More About the Kitchen Design
We started the design by determining the radius and centerlines for the windows. We created a detailed floorplan to establish the curve for the front of the cabinets and to define the work areas and appliance/sink placement. We determined the curve should be reflected at the front of the countertop to maintain the visual flow. We placed the sink and cooktop under windows to maintain balance. By blocking the cabinets 3” to 5” off the wall for mechanicals, we were able to create deeper countertops. This allowed clearance from the induction cooktop to the window for a telescoping downdraft. The extra space helped avoid issues normally associated with a cooking surface near a window.
An existing recessed area worked well for placement of the refrigerator, freezer, and ovens. Items that are used daily such as dinnerware, plates, glasses, and silverware were placed into a tall cabinet on the end of the curve. By using a circular island, we were able to maintain reasonable distances between countertop surfaces. On the opposite wall, we added a wall of 15” deep pantry cabinets and converted the pantry closet into a coffee bar and beverage center.
The cabinets are beaded inset with a soft white paint. The island is stained walnut, and the countertops are Taj Mahal Quartzite. The shutters were eliminated, and the windows replaced with Low E glass to block the heat from the sun. The new windows overlook a beautifully landscaped yard with a swimming pool.
